I love color! Color and texture are most important in my work. Fabric is one of the most versatile mediums out there. It has infinite textures and so many possibilities for manipulation. It can be dyed, printed on, sewn together, torn apart, layered with other fibers or beads, and enhanced in a multitude of ways. It is perfect for expressing my feelings about color, pattern, and texture.
To create one of my textile pieces, I begin by dyeing white cotton or rayon fabric. Fabrics of varying weights and textures can be used. Cold water dye and fabric manipulation achieve a multicolor quality. In many of my pieces, I also use fabric upon which I have screen-printed a design. Then the fabrics can be layered and joined together using a sewing machine as well as different types of adhesives in a collage style.
Please contact me with any questions about the works you see here, or if you are interested in commissioning a special piece for your home or work environment.
